This family coach holiday and coach hire company has served the people of Whitby and North Yorkshire - the fabulous setting of the TV series Heartbeat - for 60 years. </p> <p> A true family business, it was established by Eric Vasey and is still owned and managed today by his Daughter in Law and his two grandsons, Chris and Stephen. Eric Vasey came to Whitby in 1933 when his father bought the 2 local cinemas which Eric ran with his brother, Arthur. </p> <p> In 1941 Eric bought Heather Motor Services in partnership with Ralph Welford. From this early start in the coach hire business Eric then formed Coastal and Country Coaches, operating four coaches from Crescent Avenue in Whitby. Eric continued as Managing Director of the company for the next 22 years. </p> <p> After Eric's death in 1969, the company was taken over by his son, Colin, who was already involved in the family concern. In 1970 Colin married Judy and together they continued to expand the coach hire business. </p> <p> Sadly, in 1994, Colin died. In 1995 Colin's son Chris joined the business after graduating from the University of Northumbria in Newcastle where he had qualified in Transport Management and Business Studies. Chris is a Member of the <a href="http://www.iolt.org.uk/">Institute of Logistics</a> and has brought in many new ideas including the introduction of <a href="#">vintage bus trips around Heartbeat country</a>. The <a href="#">coach hire fleet</a> and the <a href="#">coach tours</a> business continues to expand from its present operating centre at Fairfield Way, Whitby on the beautiful North Yorkshire coast. </p> <p> In 2000, with Whitby again becoming a busy tourist destination, the decision was taken to establish an <a href="#">open top bus sightseeing tour of Whitby</a>. The bus was purchased and repainted in a distinctive livery of yellow, red & blue.
